In the last few months, I’ve come across a lot of products that were hyped A LOT only to disappoint me and wished I could get my money back. Let’s get right into it!
Korah Beauty Crystal Teardrop Miracle Blender
I would have failed as a beauty blogger if I didn’t try out one of these silicon sponges. I decided to try the Koran because their ads were all over my Facebook newsfeed. I’m gonna keep it short and sweet: I don’t like it. There’s not reason to use this other than for the initial application of foundation, which you can easily do with your hands. But you can;t actually blend out your foundation with this because it ends up just sitting on your skin, as opposed to becoming one with your skin. But I think it’s really good for applying your face mask with!
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
Yep, this concealer that’s considered to be the holy grail of concealers is not my cup of tea. If you don’t live under a rock, you know the reputation of this concealer and it seems like it’s a godsend for everyone, except for myself. I just find it really hard to work with for some reason. I use the doe-foot applicator to apply to places where I need it. Then I go in with a sponge to blend it out. I just find that it looks patchy and sort of just sits on the skin. I don’t get the same natural looking effect I get when I use the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer or the The Saem’s Full Cover Concealer. The Shape Tape I think is better for highlighting/contouring as opposed to actual concealing and giving you a natural and fresh faced look.
Nude By Nature Pressed Mattifying Mineral Veil
I purchased this a while ago when I was on the hunt for a nice mattifying/setting powder that would be great for everyday. I’ve only tried some of Nude By Nature products and I haven’t been impressed. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with this powder either. In fact it’s one of the crappiest powders I’ve ever tried. It comes with a puff which is completely pointless because it barely picks up any products. Even when I try to use a powder brush, almost no product comes off. I actually have to use my nails to physically draw out the powder. And when I managed to get it on my face, it wasn’t very good at mattifying. I would be super oily by the end of the day, would not recommend to anyone.
Go-To Skincare Lips
I had high hopes for this because Zoe Foster-Blake is just so lovely and so funny. And also because a lot of people talk so highly of her skincare line. I haven’t tried all the products from the range but I can say that I did not like the Lip Balm. I thought it was quite…oily? I’m not sure if this is the right word because it’s not thick and it’s quite watery for a lip balm. And honestly it didn’t moisturise my lips and it sort of just sat on top of them. I couldn’t use this unde my lipstick so I only used it at night. When I woke up in the morning my lips still felt dry…not worth the money.
Morphe Nature Glow Palette
Okay so I have mixed reviews on this. I think Morphedoes an amazing job with their shimmer/metallic eyeshadows. They’re insanely pigmented and ar incredibly smooth and buttery. But I found their matte eyeshadows to be quite chalky, dry with zero pigmentation. And generally I just don’t use this palette. These are nice colours that are neutral and great for everyday. But I think I get overwhelmed with the colour choices And with the fees times I’ve used this palette, I only used like 3 colours. I also don’t like the plastic packaging. I feel like it’s quite flimsy and just accident prone. I much prefer that cardboard packaging that you would find with Colourpop’s palettes. Also Morphe isn’t easy to get to Australia. You have to pay a substantial amount for shipping so I wouldn’t recommend, the are better eyeshadows out there.
Tarte Lippie Lingerie
Tarte’s website was having a free shipping deal so I had a look to see what I wanted to try and I decided to go for the Lippie Lingeries. They are the crayon style lipsticks that come in a range Nude lip colours with matte finishes. Looking at the swatches they looked pretty good so I picked up two shades. First off, shipping took forever. It took about 4 weeks for the lipsticks to arrive. Second, one of the lipsticks came broken. The bullet had fallen out of its casing. When I contacte Tarte for a replacement, it took them 2 weeks to get back to me. And in the end I got a refund, not a replacement. Which I guess could be a blessing in disguise because in the end I didn’t like the product. I found the lipsticks to suck all the moisture out of my lips, it wasn’t very long lasting either.
Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte
I gussed over this on Instagram a while back because this limited edition Super Mario Bros. packaging is just too adorable. But the lipstick itself was the same case as the Tarte Lippie Lingerie’s. It was very drying on the lips and it faded quickly. I felt that it just didn’t have any moisturising properties that could have helped with the dryness and longevity of the lipsticks. So as much as I love the packaging and colour, I haven’t been reaching for it much because the formula just doesn’t tick all the boxes for me.
And that’s everything! Hopefully this was a helpful post for you so you know which products you should be a little more weary of before making a purchase. Let me know which products you think aren’t worth the hype so other readers and myself will know what to looks out for! I’ll see you all next week! xx
